Editorial standards
Our editorial policy
The standards every page on this site is held to, and the lines we will not cross.
What we publish
We publish general information about business finance for Australian business owners: reviews of loan types and features, guides, a glossary, industry explainers and calculators. Every page is designed to help a reader understand an option well enough to make their own decision or ask better questions of a lender.
Our promises to readers
- Plain English first. Every page opens with a direct answer. Jargon is explained or linked to our glossary.
- Downsides included. Every loan type review lists what to watch and who should look elsewhere, not only the benefits.
- No rankings or ratings of lenders. We review loan types and features. We do not score, star-rate or rank individual lenders, and we never accept payment to feature or favour a product.
- No published rates. Business credit is priced on the individual business, so advertised rates mislead more than they inform. Our calculators use the figures in your own offers instead.
- No invented numbers. We do not publish statistics we cannot source. Worked examples are clearly marked as illustrative and use made-up businesses.
- No testimonials. We do not publish customer reviews or testimonials.
How pages are researched and checked
Pages are researched against primary and official sources wherever possible, including the Australian Taxation Office, business.gov.au, ASIC and its Moneysmart service, the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Financial Security Authority, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner and state revenue offices. We link to those sources at the end of each page so you can check them yourself.
Each page is drafted by a member of the Business Loan Reviews editorial team and checked by a second team member for accuracy, clarity and balance before it is published. Where a page touches tax, we stick to how the rules work in general and recommend talking to an accountant about your own position.
Keeping content current
We review pages on a rolling schedule and whenever an official rule, threshold or common lending practice changes. The "updated" date at the top of each page shows when it was last reviewed. If a fact cannot be confirmed with a current official source, we leave it out.
Originality
Everything on this site is written by our team for this site. We check our content for overlap with other publications and rewrite anything that is too close. Illustrations and diagrams are created for this site.
Separation between content and enquiries
This site lets readers make an enquiry and be connected with a lending partner. That arrangement does not influence what we write. Reviews cover loan types that we cannot help with as readily as those we can, and we point out when a reader would be better served by their accountant, the ATO or a free financial counselling service. You can read more in how we are funded.
Corrections and feedback
If you think something on this site is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact page. We will check it and correct it promptly if needed.
Your next step
Have a question about your own situation?
Guides can only go so far. Make one enquiry and a person who works with business lending every day will review it. No credit check to ask, no lead auction, and nothing to sign until you are ready.
- No credit check to enquire. Asking a question about your options leaves no mark on your credit file. A credit check only happens later, if you decide to apply.
- One enquiry, not a lead auction. Your details are not sprayed across a list of lenders. One lending partner looks at your situation properly.
- A real person reads it. A person who works with business finance every day reviews your enquiry and calls you. Accurate answers help them get it right first time.
